Jenna Bush Hager Becomes Reporter For NBC's 'Today' Show

NBC's 'Today' show has hired Jenna Bush Hager, George Bush's daughter, as a news correspondent.

The program's executive producer, Jim Bell, tells AP that the former first daughter will contribute to stories roughly once a month, but it definitely won't involve politics.

"She just sort of popped to us as a natural presence," says Bell after seeing how comfortable Jenna was on air.

"I think she knows something about pressure and being under some scrutiny. When she came here for a handful of appearances, she knocked it out of the park," he says, referring to a ten minute scheduled interview for her book two years ago, which ended up being stretched to half an hour.

"It wasn't something I'd always dreamed to do," says the 27-year-old teacher. "But I think one of the most important things in life is to be open-minded and to be open-minded for change."

I hope to focus on what I'm passionate about because I think I would do the best job on them - education, urban education, women and children's issues and literacy."

Expect her first story to air sometime next month.

Meanwhile, 'Today' announced last week that it was the top morning show with over five million total viewers, a 1.3 million lead over 'Good Morning America' and a 2.4 million lead over 'The Early Show'.
