Jay Leno Takes a Pay Cut, 'Tonight Show' Lays Off 20 Staffers

Around twenty staffers have been laid off from NBC's 'The Tonight Show' to cut costs on the late night talk show.

Jay Leno has also accepted a pay cut in order to save the jobs of other staffers as the budget for the show is slashed from $2.3 million per week to $1.7 million, according to the Los Angeles Times.

"Jay's foremost concern is for the wonderful people who work for The Tonight Show," Leno's spokesman, Bruce Bobbins, tells the paper. "He did what was necessary to ensure their wellbeing."

The comedian, who had signed on for around $25 million per year, will now make closer to $20 million.

Many other senior staffers also agreed to pay cuts to prevent more job losses. However, it's unclear what prompted the moves given the 'Tonight Show's ratings have changed much in the last year.
