Jackie Chan: I'm No Fan Of 'Rush Hour' Movies

Jackie Chan may owe his success in Hollywood to the 'Rush Hour' movies but in candid comments on his official web site, Chan says he isn't a fan of the movies and largely didn't understand the humor.

Chan said when after filming the first installment of the 'Rush Hour' movie in 1998: "I felt very disappointed because it was a movie I didn't appreciate and I did not like the action scenes involved. I felt the style of action was too Americanized and I didn't understand the American humor."

Chan says he originally did the movie because he wanted to test the US market and didn't have high hopes.

But when it did well and broke the $100 million mark at the US box office, earning $141 million, producers wanted to do a sequel. He was hesitant but took the project because he was offered an 'irresistible' amount of money.

The second did even better, earning $226 million at the box office, so he decided to do a third to satisfy fans of the series.and bring the fanchise to a close. The third hasn't done nearly as well but has earned a respectable $137 million so far.

"Nothing particularly exciting stood out that made this movie special for me," he said speaking about the third installment. "I spent four months making this film and I still don't fully understand the humor."

Chan has admitted in the past that he uses the salary from his American projects, which is very high relative to his other roles, to fund Chinese-language projects that he's truly wants to do. At least he's honest.
