'Italy's Got Talent' Finds Its Own Susan Boyle (Video)

A frumpy middle-age singer stunned a teary-eyed audience on the Italian version of 'Got Talent' as she belted out the 'Casta Diva' aria from Vincenzo Bellini's 'Norma'.

The 38-year-old Carmen Masola, who is a former newsstand agent, said a possible singing career had been stalled because she was "too fat" and even cited Susan Boyle her role model.

But Italian critics aren't impressed and are blaming the television show of looking for its own Boyle to boost ratings.

"There is no experimentation, no research, no new ideas," writes one reporter. "They are just mechanically adapting this foreign format to an Italian context."
