'Indiana Jones' Digs Up A $101 Million Weekend

As expected, Indiana Jones struck box office gold with a $101 million opening weekend, a debut that puts it on track to be the second biggest Memorial Day movie opening in history.

The opening of $101 million gives 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull', the fourth movie in the franchise, an opening on par with 'Iron Man' -- which hauled in $100.7 million from Friday to Sunday.

Paramount expects the movie to earn another $25 million on Monday, which would place it only behind 'Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End', as far as Friday-through-Monday Memorial Day openings go, which earned $140 million.

The movie received mixed reviews when it first screened at Cannes last week, but Indy fans hit the theatres to once again see Harrison Ford as the adventurous professor of archaeology.

Last week's chart topper, Disney's 'The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian' slipped to a distant second with $23 million, and 'Iron Man' didn't wasn't far behind with $20 million, the 'Iron Man' sequel is set for release in 2010.

Here are the top ten movies from the weekend box office:

1. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, $101 million.
2. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, $23 million.
3. Iron Man, $20 million.
4. What Happens in Vegas, $9 million.
5. Speed Racer, $4 million.
