Hugh Grant Almost Replaced Charlie Sheen on 'Two and a Half Men'

Hugh Grant was in final negotiations to sign on as Charlie Sheen's replacement on 'Two and a Half Men', but the deal inexpectedly fell through at the last minute.

"The idea of Hugh Grant as a replacement for Charlie Sheen was first pitched to CBS bosses Les Moonves and Nina Tassler about a month ago," says Nikki Finke. "After a couple of weeks sorting out the Sheen lawsuit fallout, the two execs blessed the plan and Grant was approached by the producers at Warner Bros."

"He flew in and had two meetings. Things were progressing and he had all but a completed deal when he backed out unexpectedly."

Producers were prepared to pay the British actor $1 million per episode so it wasn't the money. Grant eventually decided he didn't want to do TV because those "couldn't get his head around doing a series" with "24 episodes being a grind and a lot of work."

Names like Rob Lowe, John Stamos, Woody Harrelson and Jeremy Piven have been tossed around as rumored replacements for the embattled actor but neither of them had gotten to the stage Grant did.

CBS presents its fall lineup to advertisers during upfronts on May 18 and they are said to be scrambling behind the scenes to line up a big name for the show to solidify the fate of one of its most successful comedies.
