'How I Met Your Mother' To End Mystery In Ninth And Final Season

CBS has announced that 'How I Met Your Mother' will return for its ninth and final season this fall and audiences will finally learn the identity of the mother.

"Through eight years, How I Met Your Mother has mastered the art of leading-edge comedy, emotional water-cooler moments and pop culture catch phrases," says Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment.

"We are excited for Carter, Craig, Pam Fryman and this amazing cast to tell the final chapter and reveal television's most mysterious mother to some of TV's most passionate fans."

Last year, in its seventh season, 'How I Met Your Mother' averaged its highest ratings ever in viewers and key demographics. This year, it's averaging a very respectable 9.75 million viewers.

Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders (photosCobie Smulders photos), Neil Patrick Harris and Alyson Hannigan will all return. However, getting Segel back wasn't easy with the actor wanting to leave the show at the end of the current season for his burgeoning film career.

Eventually, Segel agreed to a ninth season provided it was the final one of the long running comedy.
