Harrison Ford Could Lose Pilot License After Passenger Plane Incident

Harrison Ford could lose his pilot license after flying directly over a waiting American Airlines 737 at the John Wayne Airport in California.

Ford appears to have misunderstood the air traffic control's clearance and landed on a taxiway instead of the runway he was cleared to land on. He flew over a waiting American Airlines aircraft with more than 110 passengers onboard in the process, a serious violation of the Federal Aviation Administration safety rules.

"The pilot correctly read back the clearance," says the FAA. "The pilot then landed on a taxiway that runs parallel to the runway, overflying a Boeing 737 that was holding short of the runway."

"The FAA considers that a very major violation of the federal air regulations," Captain Ross Aimer, a retired United Airlines pilot tells People. "They are going to go after him basically to take his license away. Fortunately for him, no one was hurt."

"I think he must have relied on his eyes, and his eyes lied to him. Experienced pilots, we look for visual clues or instruments to back up what our eyes are telling us. He missed that very, very crucial, important clue," he says of the plane. "Why was that jetliner in my way?"

If Ford is lucky, he could get off with a temporary suspension of his license or remedial training.
