George Lopez and Wife Who Donated Kidney To Him Split After 17 Years

George Lopez and his wife are ending their 17-year marriage.

A brief joint statement by Lopez and screenwriter Ann Serrano Lopez, who famously donated one of her kidneys to him, confirmed the end of their marriage.

"George and Ann Lopez have made the decision to end their 17-year marriage. The decision is amicable and by mutual agreement. They remain dedicated parents, and committed partners in business and their philanthropic organization, the Lopez Foundation."

In April 2005, Ann donated one of her kidneys to Lopez, who was battling a genetic condition that caused his organs to fail.

The 49-year-old comedian and talk show host tells 'People' magazine: "I can't pay her back, but what I can do is make her as happy as she thought I would when we first got married."

The couple, who tied the knot in 1993, have a 15-year-old daughter together.
