'General Hospital's Annie Wersching Joins '24' As Female Lead

'General Hospital' star Annie Wersching has been cast in the lead role opposite Keifer Sutherland for season seven of '24'.

She will play an FBI agent who has an antagonist relationship with Jack Bauer.

Wersching has played Amelia Joffe on the ABC soap since March. She's previously also appeared on 'Supernatural', 'Boston Legal', and 'Star Trek: Enterprise'.

Bob Gunton is also reported to be in negotiations to join the show as a regular next season. Gunton guest-starred on three episodes of last season as Secretary of Defense Ethan Kanin, he will now be chief of staff for the new female president, played by Cherry Jones.

And after numerous delays, shooting finally begins on Tuesday for the upcoming seventh season, set to air in January 2008.
