Gary Coleman's Ex-Wife Asks Judge To Recognize Common Law Marriage

Gary Coleman's ex-wife, Shannon Price, wants a judge to formally recognize her as the actor's surviving spouse.

Price says that because they continued to live together and represent themselves as a married couple despite their secret 2008 divorce, they should be considered married.

In fact, the two were divorced even when Price authorized doctors to take him off life support.

"I can confirm they've been divorced since August 12, 2008," attorney Randy Kester, who handled the divorce, said at the time.

"At the time of Gary's death, they were not married. I have no knowledge if they were ever remarried but Gary wanted me to keep their divorce private. Now that some documents have made public, I'm compelled to say it's all true."

Price wants a judge to recognize the marriage from the date of the divorce through his death at the end of May. That declaration would no doubt help her as part of the ongoing dispute over Coleman's estate.
