FX Cancels Russell Brand's 'Brand X', Gives Him Scripted Comedy

FX has cancelled Russell Brand's 'Brand X'.

However, there won't be a messy breakup since the network is giving him is own comedy series.

FX is working on a scripted, live-action comedy pilot in which Brand will star and executive producer.

"It'll be a live action show that is loosely based on his life like Curb Your Enthusiasm is loosely based on Larry David's life," describes CEO John Landgraf.

Landgraf says they decided to make the decision because they needed a late-night program to switch from weekly to daily when it launches its comedy-centric network FXX.

"Kamau and Chris were more ready to convert to a daily show in terms of their production process," he explains. "They had a profusion of material, they had their format down and were read. Second of all, we saw more potential and more upside in the audience response."

"So, since we're moving forward with that one, we're not moving forward with Brand X."

'Brand X' started off as a taped weekly show and moved to a live format for the second half of its first season.
