Fox Confirms Significant Talks For Even More Episodes of 'The X-Files'

Fox has confirmed that it's in talks with creator Chris Carter and stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson for even more 'X-Files'.

"We're in significant talks with the three principals," Fox Entertainment President David Madden said at the network's TCA event.

"Schedules are hard, but we are working hard to get this done and we would love to get another season out soon. I think that there was some very strong work throughout the season, and we look forward to more."

The X-Files returned for a limited run earlier this year after nearly 14 years off the air. It was criticized as "awkward" by some critics because it had the task of reintroducing itself while reminding viewers of its mythology.

However, CEO Dana Walden said that they would be able to skip that aspect if they were to bring it back.

"The show was off the air for a very long time," she explained. "They had the challenge of filling in the mythology. Going forward there won't be the same obligation to reset the series."

Fox touted the 16 million viewers who watched each of the six episodes of the 1993-2002 sci-fi series.
