'Finding Dory' Over 'Independence Day: Resurgence' At Box Office

'Finding Dory' continued its dominance over the box office by surging over the much-hyped 'Independence Day: Resurgence'.

The Pixar release earned $73.2 million in its second weekend to beat out 'Independence Day's take of $41.6 million. That's, in fact, even a lower opening than the original film's 1996 total of $50.2 million.

'Central Intelligence' was third at the box office with $18.4 million followed by Blake Lively (photosBlake Lively photos)'s 'The Shallows', which rode its positive reviews to earn $16.7 million. Since the shark movie cost under $20 million to make, it's already made back its entire budget.

But it was a different story at the international box office where 'Independence Day: Resurgence' easily doubled up the other competition to take top spot with $102 million.

The complete rundown of the box office:

1. Finding Dory, $73.2 million.
2. Independence Day: Resurgence, $41.6 million.
3. Central Intelligence, $18.4 million.
4. The Shallows, $16.7 million.
5. Free State of Jones, $7.8 million.
6. The Conjuring 2, $7.7 million.
7. Now You See Me 2, $5.7 million.
8. X-Men: Apocalypse, $2.5 million.
9. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, $2.4 million.
