Final 'Harry Potter' Book To Be Split Into Two Films

As we reported back in January, it's now official -- Warner Bros. confirms the final 'Harry Potter' will be split up into two films, simply titled "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2."

Producers will make the announcement on Thursday. The first film is slated for release in November 2010, with part two following in May 2011.

While some believe that the decision was made because it makes financial sense for the studio, producer David Heyman insists that wasn't the case: "It was born out of purely creative reasons," Heyman tells the Los Angeles Times. "Unlike every other book, you cannot remove elements of this book."

They will be shot back-to-back by David Yates, who is directing the adaptation of the sixth novel, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," much like the trilogy based on J.R.R Tolkien's 'Lord of the Rings.'

'Deathly Hallows' sold more than 11 million copies in the first 24 hours of its release, was the longest book of the series with 784 pages.

The five 'Harry Potter' films released to date have pulled in $4.5 billion at the worldwide box office, and 'Potter' will likely be the most lucrative franchise of all time once the story is complete.
