'Fifty Shades of Grey' Writer Tops World's Highest Earning Authors At $95 Million

'Fifty Shades of Grey' author E.L. James has topped Forbes Magazine's list of top-earning authors.

James earned an estimated $95 million from her erotic tale of romance between Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, which originally started out as 'Twilight' fan fiction.

That figure includes $5 million she was paid between June 2012 and June 2013 for the film version of the novel that is expected to be released in August 2014.

'Fifty Shades of Grey' sold more than 70 million copies in its first eight months.

Meanwhile, James Patterson placed second on the list with $91 million in earnings, most recently from his 'Witch & Wizard' and 'Maximum Ride' series. He was followed by 'Hunger Games' author Suzanne Collins, who earned an estimated $55 million.

Fox News personality Bill O'Reilly follows with $28 million and the prolific Danielle Steel is in fifth with $26 million. Over the years her books have sold over 800 million copies.
