'Family Guy' Fans Want Brian Back After Character Killed Off

Fans are asking for Brian to be resurrected after the character was unceremoniously killed off on Sunday's episode of 'Family Guy'.

In the episode titled 'Life of Brian', the family dog was run over by car and later died in hospital with his injuries too severe to save him.

The episode, which had begun with Stewie and Brian travelling back to 17th century, saw Stewie destroy his time machine just before the unthinkable happened.

"You've given me a wonderful life. I love you all," Brian said to the family before he passed on.

The twist shocked viewers of the animated comedy and many fans are now petitioning for the character to return.

"Brian Griffin was an important part of our viewing experience," says the author of the effort which now has 30,000 signatures. "The writers of Family Guy didn't just kill off one of their creations, they killed off the dog who has lived in our homes for the last 15 years. They killed the dog we all have come to love. They killed America's dog!"

"He added a witty and sophisticated element to the show. Family Guy and Fox Broadcasting will lose viewers if Brian Griffin is not brought back to the show."

Executive producer Steve Callaghan has said "this was an idea that got pitched in the writers room and it sort of caught fire, and we thought it could be a fun way to shake things up."

"As soon as this idea came up, we started talking about what the next couple episodes could be and we got very excited about the way this change will affect the family dynamics and the characters."

Fox has since put together a 'Farewell To Brian Griffin':
