Eddie Murphy To Return As 'Beverly Hills Cop'

After Indiana Jones made a successful return after almost two decades, it seems everyone is thinking comeback.

Paramount Pictures has given the green-light for a fourth edition of its 'Beverly Hills Cop' franchise, with Eddie Murphy signed on to reprise one of the roles that launched his career. The film is expected to begin shooting next year, and will be directed by Brett Ratner, who has directed the 'Rush Hour.'

'Variety' reports Murphy approached the studio about reviving the franchise in which he plays Detroit police detective, Axel Foley. The originals were a huge hit with the 1984 movie and its sequels earning around $750 million worldwide.

Murphy's most successful role in the last few years has most likely been as the voice of Donkey in the 'Shrek' franchise, which has grossed about $800 million worldwide. His other movies, such as the live-action comedy 'Norbit', have largely flopped at the box office.

It's currently scheduled to have a summer 2010 release.
