Dominic Monaghan Officially Joins 'Flash Forward' Cast

Dominic Monaghan has officially joined the cast of ABC's new fall drama 'Flash Forward'.

Producer David Goyer reveals that Monaghan's character, Simon, will be "a game-changing character who f--ks up a lot of things."

The former 'Lost' star joins a cast that includes 'Star Trek's John Cho, Joseph Fiennes, Courtney B. Vance, Jack Davenport, Brian F. O'Byrne, Christine Woods, Zachary Knighton, Peyton List and Sonya Walger.

And speaking of the island drama, does Monaghan's casting mean he definitely won't be making an appearance on the final season of 'Lost'? "When people ask if me I'm coming back to Lost, that's the equivalent of asking Huckleberry Finn if he's coming back to Mark Twain," says Dominic. "I'm a fictional character. I have no control over that."

It may sound counterintuitive but in our minds it almost guarantees that Charlie will be back on 'Lost', even if only for a brief period, in some form since both shows reside on ABC and shooting schedules can be more easily coordinated.

Asked by 'E! News' if the show's hype resembles what he went through with 'Lost' Monaghan says "it's a large impressive international cast, a worldwide show, a world event, with mystery, drama and suspense, that ultimately tells the story through characters. So in that way it's heavily influenced by Lost."

"But it's also its own beast. I just kinda know what you guys know. A world event takes place for about two and a half minutes. Everyone becomes a prophet of their life. It's just a huge headf--k."

"I want to play someone who's the opposite of Charlie. Simon is a man—this guy's not scared, he's capable, he's unflappable, he's smart, he's scary, he's everything that Charlie wasn't... I love Charlie but it's important to me to continue to show an audience that I can play more. If no one knows what I'm going to play next, it gives me more choices."

Based on Robert J. Sawyer's novel of the same name, the series chronicles a global event in which everyone blacks out for 2 minutes and has mysterious visions months into the future.

'Flash Forward' premieres on September 24, 2009 at 8 PM ET.
