David Letterman Remembers Robin Williams With Heartfelt Ten Minute Tribute

David Letterman remembers Robin Williams -- a man he knew for nearly four decades -- in a moving tribute on 'Late Night'.

It was the late night host's first show back since the death of the actor-comedian.

"You know what it is. It's like nothing we had seen before. Nothing we had imagined before," Letterman remembers of seeing Williams perform for the first time.

"We go home at night and are writing our little jokes about stuff and this guy comes in... and we're like morning dew... he comes in like a hurricane."

"And now the longer he's on stage, the worse we would feel about ourselves. Then he finishes and I go 'Oh, that's it. They're going to have to put an end to showbusiness because what can happen after this.'"

"And then we got to see this night after night after night. Honest to God we thought 'Holy crap, there goes my chance at showbusiness.'"

Letterman showed clips from Williams' appearances on his show, including a cameo Letterman did on 'Mork & Mindy' years earlier. You can watch those around the 8 minute mark.

"What I will add here is beyond being a very talented man and a good friend and a gentlemen, I am sorry I, like everybody else, had no idea that the man was in pain and the man was suffering," said Letterman. "But what a guy, Robin Williams."
