David Duchovny's Sex Addiction Lands Him In Rehab

David Duchovny has entered a rehabilitation facility for sex addiction.

In a very brief statement released through his lawyer, the actor says he checked into rehab voluntarily and asks for privacy: "I have voluntarily entered a facility for the treatment of sex addiction. I ask for respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation as a family."

Even though this is the first time Duchovny has publicly acknowledged the problem, the first stories him possibly being a sex addict came out eleven years ago, but the actor rejected the notion at the time and said he would rather be a sex addict than be called a neat freak.

"I'm not a sex addict," he said in the 1997 interview. "I have never been to those meetings. It's hurtful to my family and if I was involved with a woman in a monogamous relationship, it would be hurtful to her. There was another story claiming I was a neat freak. If I had to choose one of the two, I think I'd rather be a sex addict. It's not funny and I'll be glad when it goes away."

The 48-year-old has been married to Tea Leoni since 1997, and the couple have two children together.

Ironically, he currently plays as womanizing writer on his Showtime television series 'Californication', before which he played Fox Mulder on 'The X Files' for nine years.

'Californication's second season begins on September 28. Shooting on the twleve new episodes wrapped up last month so the news will not affect production.
