David Blaine To Hang Upside Down For 60 Hours In New York Despite Fears

Magician and endurance artist David Blaine has strung himself upside down above Central Park's Wollman ice skating rink in New York and plans to stay there for 60 hours.

Blaine is hanging by his feet from a steel scaffold and wearing a safety harness attached to a crossbar.

'Live with Regis and Kelly' host Kelly Ripa (photosKelly Ripa photos) also put on a harness on Monday and hung out with Blaine, literally, for a brief period on the show.

Blaine told Ripa that he stopped eating "about a week ago" so that he won't have to go to the bathroom but he needs "lots of liquids so I won't have to go into organ failure again, which has happened twice." He will pull himself upright to drink liquids and restore circulation.

Doctors will be monitoring him throughout the feat, however, the increase in blood pressure raises other concerns including not enough flow to his lower extremities and the possibility of blood hemorrhaging.

But if all goes according to plan, Blaine plans to conclude the feat on television Wednesday night when he takes, what he calls, the "Dive of Death" and falls 44 feet to the ground.
