David Arquette: Courteney Cox Didn't Want To Have Sex
While discussing his split with Courteney Cox on Howard Stern's radio show Tuesday, David Arquette revealed he and Cox hadn't had sex in about four months.
Earlier this week the couple announced they had agreed to a "trial separation" after eleven years of marriage.
"We were not having sex," said the 39-year-old. "And I completely understand... she's in a place of wanting to be real and emotional. She's an emotional being. She's an amazing woman. If it doesn't feel right, she doesn't feel like bonding in that way."
"It breaks my heart," he said of their decision to separate, adding that he is "not the one that called this separation... I've been begging Courteney to get back with me."
Arquette said they stopped being intimate about a month before they started filming 'Scream 4'. He admitted that since their split, he's been intimate with another woman, cocktail waitress Jasmine Waltz but stressed "I am a single man."
"People think I'm a sleazebag," Arquette said. "I spent 11 years of his marriage being the most faithful man in the world. You can't imagine how faithful I was."
"She's the greatest woman I've ever met," he said of Cox. "Now, yes, she's got her issues. She tries to take on everybody's problem. She tries to be the mother to everyone – that's why she doesn't want to be the mother to me anymore."
"She said 'I don't wanna be your mother anymore.' I appreciated that. I respected it. I've been going to therapy. I'm trying to grow up. I'm trying to be true to myself. Trying to figure out myself and my world, as is she... The reason for this separation is to better understand ourselves and the qualities we need in a partner and for our marriage."
As for reports this past spring that Cox was having an affair with her Cougar Town costar, Brian Van Holt, Arquette said he confronted her on it.
"I do believe her. I truly don't think she ever had an affair," he said, adding that if anything perhaps they formed an "emotional" bond.
Asked if she pushed the separation because she wanted to see other people, Arquette said, "Maybe. I don't know."
And how did they tell their 6-year-old daughter Coco about the split? "We went to a beach and had a picnic and explained to her that we're grownups, and a lot of the time when grownups are growing up, they need to figure out their lives. Sometimes that takes each other having a little space."
"She said, 'Are you guys getting a divorce?' I said, 'No, We're not getting a divorce, we're just taking some time apart to get to know ourselves better and get to know what we want out of our mate better.'"
