Dance Moms' Abby Lee Miller Pleads Guilty To Fraud and Money Laundering

Founder of American reality television series Dance Moms, Abby Lee Miller, has plead guild to bankruptcy fraud and money laundering.

This after failing to report tens of thousands of dollars she brought into the United States after a dance tour of Australia in 2014.

She pleaded guilty to violating currency reporting laws and one count of concealing bankruptcy assets.

She was charged last fall with illegally trying to hide $775,000 worth of income from the Lifetime network reality show while she filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Miller had been accused by prosecutors of trying to smuggle $120,000 into the country in her entourage's luggage to get around declaring more than $10,000.

They claimed she also hid earnings from the Collins Avenue Entertainment-produced 'Dance Moms' by having payments made to her mother instead of her, while feigning bankruptcy.

Because she has plead guilty, Prosecutors will no longer seek the five years in jail they originally argued and are now seeking closer to two years jail, while her lawyers are asking for a maximum of six months.

Miller, who remains free on $10,000 unsecured bond, speaks in a statement about her "mistakes."

"I have made the difficult decision to close the door on this chapter of my life by accepting responsibility for mistakes I have made along the way," Miller tells AP.

"I appreciate all the wonderful messages of support I've received from around the world and look forward to the future and getting back to my life's work; helping young dancers fulfil their potential."

Her 90-minute Sydney masterclass cost $179 for young dancers and $59 for supervising parents. She will be sentenced on October 11.
