CW Attempts To Break Cheerleading Record For 'Hellcats'

The CW is attempting to break a Guinness World Record to promote its new fall cheerleading series 'Hellcats'.

The network has invited cheerleading squads from around the country to Frisco Memorial Stadium in Texas to participate in a 5-minute choreographed dance this weekend to set a new record for 'Largest Cheerleading Dance'.

CW is awarding $4,000 to the squad who brings the most participants and has partnered with Cheer Channel to rally the squads and get them trained.

The current record of 297 will not be too difficult to break with more than 2500 RSVP'd to the event so far.

"Even in the age of digital technology, you don't necessarily have to go high tech to capture the imagination of viewers, even the target audience of 'Hellcats,'" says the channel's marketing head, Rick Haskins.

"It's just good clean fun and, yes, we think it will ultimately go viral once we get the tape from the event."

'Hellcats' will debut on September 8 at 9 PM.
