Christian Bale Reflects On 'Batman': 'I Didn't Quite Manage What I Hoped I Would'

Christian Bale is reflecting on his turn as Batman with only a few weeks before Ben Affleck puts on the suit in 'Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice'.

In an interview with Yahoo, Bale says his performance as the Dark Knight across director Christopher Nolan's trilogy may have had some room for improvement.

"I didn't quite manage what I hoped I would throughout the trilogy," Bale says. "Chris did, but my own sense of self is like, 'I didn’t quite nail it.'"

Bale says Batman was a "very, very, very dark and messed up character."

"I found when I put on the suit, I felt like, 'I just feel like a bloody idiot if I don't use this as a means of, It's his true monstrous self that he allows to come out in that moment. Let's do that.'"

Bale also talks about the influence Heath Ledger's Joker had on him in 2008's 'The Dark Knight'.

"Heath turned up, and just kind of completely ruined all my plans," Bale says. "Because I went, 'He's so much more interesting than me and what I'm doing.'"
