Chest Pains Land Radio Host Rush Limbaugh In Honolulu Hospital

Conservative talk-show host Rush Limbaugh is resting after being rushed to a Hawaii hospital on Wednesday night.

"Rush was admitted to a Honolulu hospital today and is resting comfortably after suffering chest pains," says a statement by his radio program.

"Rush appreciates your prayers and well wishes. He will keep you updated."

The 58-year-old left for Christmas vacation on December 23 and was due to return to his show on January 4. There's no word on whether that schedule will change.

Guest host Walter E. Williams described Limbaugh's pains as similar to the feeling of a "heart attack coming on," but he added that doctors haven't yet confirmed whether the 58-year-old had a heart attack.

"He had a comfortable night and he's getting good medical attention."

Limbaugh's three-hour weekday show is heard on more than 500 radio stations nationwide, and more than 14 million people are said to tune in at least once a week. He is thought to have a contract with Clear Channel valued at $400 million.

Seen by many as the unofficial voice of the Republicans, Limbaugh has been a vocal critic of Barack Obama and is known for his fiery lambasting of Democratic politicians and policies.

In fact, in a recent poll, the outspoken entertainer was found to be the country's most influential conservative voice.

If Limbaugh has to take time off from his show, it won't be the first time he has done so. In 2003, he took a five-week leave from his radio show to enter rehab, after admitting an addiction to pain medicine.

UPDATE:Limbaugh said Friday further tests showed nothing was wrong with his heart.

"The pain was real, and they don't know what caused it," said Limbaugh. He added his best guess was he had a spasm in an artery.
