Charlie Hunnam Drops Out Of 'Fifty Shades of Grey' Movie

Charlie Hunnam has dropped out of the 'Fifty Shades of Grey' movie.

“The filmmakers of Fifty Shades of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam's immersive TV schedule, which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey," Universal Pictures says in a statement.

The 'Sons of Anarchy' actor was set to star as Christian Grey alongside Dakota Johnson in the adaptation of the erotic novel.

However, the reason Hunnam has pulled out of the film at the last minute seems to hold little water since 'Sons of Anarchy' was to wrap up production on its season next week.

The 'Fifty Shades of Grey' movie was set to begin filming in November for specifically that reason. The more common belief is that the actor got cold feet after being overwhelmed by the attention from fans, many of whom petitioned the studio to recast the role.

Producers Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti must now find a replacement as soon as possible to keep their release date of August 1, 2014 realistic.

There's been no word on whether Dakota Johnson will stay on, considering executives cast the pair specifically based on their on-screen chemistry.
