Censors Cut 'Basic Instinct 2' For 'R'

Sharon Stone will soon be back to reprise the role that made her famous, playing novelist Catherine Tramell in Basic Instinct 2.

And, like the first, it's not exactly a family movie. Censors in the US had to cut a steamy scene out of Basic Instinct 2: Risk Addiction for a 'hard R' rating so that teenagers can watch it.

Censors originally threatened to label the sequel with an NC-17 rating, which have would prevented anyone under 18 from seeing the film. Hence, a multiple partner scene was cut from the movie in order to meet the guidelines for an R rating. Although they have allowed another sequence where Sharon's character is pleasured by a man as she drives a sports car through the streets on London at high speed.

"It is a hard R", said a Sony spokesman. "It's a graphic psychological thriller. The official MPAA designation is, 'Strong sexuality, nudity, violence, language and some drug content'".

It's been 13 years since Stone did the original with her infamous interrogation scene in the original Basic Instinct. Meanwhile, Stone was recently voted the sexiest over-40 woman in the world. And she knows it as she refused to use a body double in the movie.

Basic Instinct 2 continues the story of novelist Catherine Tramell, a murder suspect who seduces police-appointed psychiatrist Dr Andrew Glass.

The movie is due to hit theatres on March 31, 2006.
