CBS' 'Star Trek: Discovery' To Be Led by A Woman Who Isn't Captain

CBS is continuing to trickle out the details about its 'Star Trek: Discovery' series.

At a Television Critics Association on Wednesday, executive producer Bryan Fuller revealed that the series will be led by a female human character, who isn't a captain but rather a subordinate.

Fuller hopes to differentiate the 13-episode series from previous installments by not focusing solely on the captain's point of view. He's believes the lead's varying duties on the ship will give viewers a different view with varied storytelling.

No one has been cast for the role since casting for the series has yet to begin.

Fuller teased that the series, which takes place between the original 'Star Trek' and 'Star Trek: Enterprise', would include a gay character, robots and more aliens than previous series.

He also hinted that 'Star Trek: Discovery' will include an big event that's been talked about in 'Star Trek' but never been explored, which will propel the serialized story.
