CBS Kills 'How I Met Your Mother' Spin-Off After Seeing Pilot

After looking like a lock for the fall, CBS has decided to pass on its planned 'How I Met Your Mother' spin-off after watching the pilot episode.

'How I Met Your Dad' isn't completely dead but 20th Century Fox Television will now have to hope another network comes along to buy rights to the comedy.

"There were elements on the pilot that didn't work out," CBS' Nina Tassler told reporters before its upfronts.

Tassler said they wanted to redo the pilot, as it has successfully done at one time with 'The Big Bang Theory' but the network just didn't have enough time before its option to the comedy expired on Wednesday.

"We tried to work out about redoing the pilot. That's not happening right now. Sometimes you run into these kind of issues and you hope they can resolve themselves in that time frame," she said.

Tassler admitted that producers Carter Bays, Craig Thomas and Emily Spivey didn't necessarily agree with CBS about redoing the pilot

"I'm heartsick; we loved this brand and we love the producers but it didn't work out," she said. "Re-piloting was in the best interest of protecting the creative elements of the show... that was our position, not necessarily theirs."
