Brittany Murphy Charity Shuts Down After Non-Profit Status Questioned

A website for the Brittany Murphy Foundation has been shut down after it was reported that the charity did not have non-profit status.

The foundation, run by Murphy's husband and mother, has been collecting donations to help children in their 'arts education'.

However, the site quickly went dark after it was revealed that the foundation isn't registered as a charity with the IRS or the state of California, as required by law.

It has now relaunched with a message that explains it has decided not to accept donations "until we have our non-profit status approved before proceeding to insure that we can truly honor Brittany's charitable desires."

This isn't the first time the foundation's actions have been questioned. A couple of weeks ago, Brittany's husband, Simon Monjack, came under fire after suggesting that individuals donate a minimum of $1,000 and corporations at least $10,000 at its first fundraiser.

Murphy died on December 20 at the age of 32 due to pneumonia as the primary cause of death, with drugs and anemia as contributing factors.
