Brad Pitt Calls Angelina Jolie 'Heroic' For Double Mastectomy

Brad Pitt says he proud of Angelina Jolie (photosAngelina Jolie photos) for deciding to undergo a double mastectomy.

The star of the upcoming 'World War Z' says he fully supports his fiancee's decision to have a preventative double mastectomy to vastly reduce her chances of contracting breast cancer, to which she is genetically predisposed.

"Having witnessed this decision firsthand, I find Angie's choice, as well as so many others like her, absolutely heroic," Pitt tells the London Evening Standard. "I thank our medical team for their care and focus."

"All I want for is for her to have a long and healthy life, with myself and our children. This is a happy day for our family."

"It's been an emotional and beautifully inspiring few months," Pitt continued. "It's such a wonderful relief to come through this and not have a spectre hanging over our heads. To know that that's not going to be something that's going to affect us. My most proudest thing is our family. This isn't going to get that."

A day earlier, while making the surprising revelation, Jolie credited Pitt for with giving her the strength to move forward with her decision.

"I am fortunate to have a partner, Brad Pitt, who is so loving and supportive," Jolie wrote. "So to anyone who has a wife or girlfriend going through this, know that you are a very important part of the transition."

"Brad was at the Pink Lotus Breast Center, where I was treated, for every minute of the surgeries. We managed to find moments to laugh together. We knew this was the right thing to do for our family and that it would bring us closer. And it has."

"My mother fought cancer for almost a decade," Jolie explained. "She held out long enough to meet the first of her grandchildren and to hold them in her arms. But my other children will never have the chance to know her and experience how loving and gracious she was."

"I can tell my children that they don't need to fear they will lose me to breast cancer.

The couple are rising six children together ranging in ages from 11 to 4-year-old twins.
