Bono Reveals He Always Wears Sunglasses Because Of Glaucoma

Bono has revealed that he doesn't wear his trademark glasses as a fashion accessory.

The U2 frontman says he wears glasses because he suffers from glaucoma.

The singer made the revelation during an appearance on 'The Graham Norton Show' when asked if he ever takes off his shades.

"This is a good place to explain to people that I've had glaucoma for the last 20 years," he said. "I have good treatments and I am going to be fine."

Glaucoma causes damage to the eye's optic nerve with a buildup of pressure in the eye. The condition makes eyes highly sensitive to light.

"You're not going to get this out of your head now and you will be saying, 'Ah, poor old blind Bono,'" he laughed.

'The thing about glaucoma is that I had perfect 20/20 vision. So I would go to do these eye tests and I would say, 'But I don't really need one because I got perfect vision and I can read the bottom line.'"

"And they would go, 'Oh... have you ever had sort of strange visions of steam coming into the room and rings around lights?' And I went, 'Oh, yeah, and it's not from anything exotic.'"

Bono, who apologized for ending up in the playlists of all users with the free iTunes release of their album last week, once again spoke about the backlash.

"We wanted to do something fresh, but it seems some people don't believe in Father Christmas," Bono told Norton.

"All those people who were uninterested in U2 are now mad at U2. As far as we are concerned, it's an improvement," he cracked.
