Bon Jovi's shows In China Suddenly Cancelled For 'Unforeseen Reasons'

Bon Jovi's concert tour in China set for next week has been abruptly cancelled.

AEG Live Asia says in a statement that the shows have been called due to "unforeseen reasons" and is already offering refunds for shows in Shanghai and Beijing.

The promoter refused to provide any further details and would only apologize "for the inconvenience and disappointment that this will cause."

However, the Financial Times reports, according to inside sources, that the shows were cancelled because the Chinese government's Culture Ministry discovered that the band once included a picture of the Dalai Lama in a video backdrop during a concert in Taiwan.

That would pose two big problems for Bon Jovi since the communist government does not take kindly to support of the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader. And even more so in Taiwan, where some acts have been permanently banned for urging independence.

Earlier this summer, Maroon 5 had a show canceled in Shanghai because band members sent the Dalai Lama birthday greetings on social media.
