Blind Contestant Performs On Australian 'Dancing with the Stars' (Video)

This season's edition of 'Dancing with the Stars' in Australia features the competition's first blind contestant.

In fact, Gerrard Gosens performed his first dance this week on the season premiere of the show, with partner Jessica Raffa, and their execution of the waltz quickly became the talk of the country.

Gosens was born without irises, a condition called aniridia, and lost his sight completely at age 14.

"It is without doubt the hardest thing I've ever done," said Gosens following the performance. "I could do it again it feels that good. Our connection tonight was really, really good. It's about actually having a go, and enjoying a real journey. I wish I could see it on the replay, actually," he joked.

His mother, Carol O'Brien said she was amazed to see her son perform the way he did: "He's done just about everything - but he's never done dancing. He's a very tactile person, but there are some parts that will be difficult. I don't know what I'd do if he won though."

"I think he will take the opportunity by the horns, and use it to show that he can do it. He's trying to set an example for Taylor (his 11-year-old daughter who also suffers from the same condition) to tell her there is nothing she can't do."
