Ben Kingsley To Play Mughal Emperor Who Built Taj Mahal

British actor Ben Kingsley will play the Mughal emperor who built the Taj Mahal in memory of his beloved wife, Indian newspaper 'Times of India' reports.

Kingsley told the paper: "The movie is on the building of the Taj Mahal". He added that the movie will also include emperor Shah Jahan's abject isolation for years in a prison cell.

In his last years, the emperor was imprisoned by his son Aurangzeb, and is said to have spent his remaining days gazing at the Taj from his prison cell in a nearby fort.

Bollywood babe Aishwarya Rai, a former Miss World, will play emperor Shah Jahan's wife Mumtaz Mahal, upon whose death the devastated ruler built the Taj in 1648.

"I had spoken to Aishwarya last year while we were working on The Last Legion and she very generously agreed to do the movie with me," he said of his co-star.

Kingsley won an Oscar for his portrayal of Indian freedom hero Mahatma Gandhi in the 1982 movie 'Gandhi'.
