'Batman vs. Superman' To Film In Detroit, Michigan

The 'Man of Steel' sequel, 'Batman vs. Superman', will film in Michigan and primarily in Detroit, the state's Film Office has confirmed.

The DC comics film, with production expected to begin in the first quarter of 2014, has been approved for $35 million in incentives on an anticipated $131 million of in-state spending.

"This project will further strengthen the reputation of Michigan and metro Detroit as a premier film destination," says Margaret O'Riley, director of the Michigan Film Office. "We look forward to the spotlight shining on our incredibly talented workforce and the businesses that support our film industry here in Michigan."

"Detroit is a great example of a quintessential American city, and I know it will make the perfect backdrop for our movie," says director Zack Snyder, without confirming that Detroit will likely be used as Batman's Gotham city.

"Detroit and the entire state of Michigan have been fantastic collaborators, and we are looking forward to working together on this film."

Although don't expect all filming to take place in Michigan. Films of this scale typically shoot in several locations to complete production. However, the agreement indicates that Michigan will be a substantial location for the sequel.

As the Detroit Free Press reports, the state's filming schedule had slumped after the 2011 reduction of the film incentives, but after this was revived productions like AMC's 'Low Winter Sun' and 'Transformers 4' have come into the state.

In fact, 'Low Winter Sun' was approved for nearly $9 million in incentives for its 10 episodes.
