Avril Lavigne Faces Backlash Over 'Racist' Hello Kitty

Avril Lavigne (photosAvril Lavigne photos) is facing backlash over her music video for 'Hello Kitty'.

In the video, the 29-year-old Canadian pop star bops around in an oversized pink skirt, adorned with cupcakes, yelling out Japanese phrases as Japanese dancers move behind her.

While some fans agree that 'Hello Kitty' may be a tad racist, even more are in agreement that the song itself is worse.

"Oh Avril, this is literally the worst music I have ever heard," asked one fan on Twitter. "And then you had to go and make it kinda racist. Why?"

"Folks shouldn't be mad at Avril for a (not really) racist video," writes another. "They should be mad such a crappy song was produced in the 1st place."

Lavigne has not commented on the backlash but says the song is both "flirtatious and somewhat sexual" and "genuinely about my love for Hello Kitty."
