Ashley Judd Says She Will 'Regretfully' Not Run For Senate

Despite months of speculation that she would run for Kentucky's Senate seat in 2014, Ashley Judd says she's decided against the idea.

"After serious and thorough contemplation, I realize that my responsibilities and energy at this time need to be focused on my family," the actress explains in a post.

"Regretfully, I am currently unable to consider a campaign for the Senate."

"I have spoken to so many Kentuckians over these last few months who expressed their desire for a fighter for the people and new leader."

"While that won't be me at this time, I will continue to work as hard as I can to ensure the needs of Kentucky families are met by returning this Senate seat to whom it rightfully belongs: the people and their needs, dreams, and great potential."

"Thanks for even considering me as that person and know how much I love our Commonwealth. Thank you!"

Judd had been seriously considering a run for Congress to challenge Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell and had even met with media consultants and organizers.

However, the "family" remark is notable because the 44-year-old ended her ten year marriage to husband Dario Franchitti in January. She also does not have any children.
