Ashlee Simpson Joins Cast Of CW's New 'Melrose Place'

Ashlee Simpson is moving to 'Melrose Place'.

The singer-actress has been cast as a series regular on CBS' update of 'Melrose Place', seven years after her breakthrough role on '7th Heaven'.

Ashlee appeared in 39 episodes of the show from 2002-2004 as a recurring character, soon after an appearance in 'Malcolm in the Middle', and a minor role in the 2002 film 'The Hot Chick'.

On 'Melrose Place', Simpson will play Violet, who is described as a "shrewd small-town girl who moves to LA with a secret." The singer says she's "thrilled to be joining the cast and I look forward to being a part of its new generation of residents."

Simpson will also appear on next week's episode, March 18, of the network's 'CSI: New York' with her husband, Pete Wentz. In the episode, the two will play Bonnie-and-Clyde wannabes.

CBS is hoping to recreate the success of the original series on the heels of CW's successful first season reboot of '90210'. She joins the previously cast Michael Rady and Katie Cassidy (photosKatie Cassidy photos).
