Anne Hathaway: 'I Looked Like My Gay Brother' With 'Les Miserables' Haircut

Anne Hathaway (photosAnne Hathaway photos), who lost twenty five pounds and chopped off her long locks to play Fantine in Les Miserables, says her look reminded her of her brother.

"When I eventually looked in the mirror I just thought I looked like my gay brother," the actress said at a New York City screening of the movie musical.

Hathaway said she agreed to cut her hair even though it meant she would "be almost bald" for her wedding to Adam Shulman. She ended up wearing a hairpiece for the nuptials.

"I had to be obsessive about it," she said of her look. "The idea was to look near death. Looking back on the whole experience, and I don't judge it in any way, it was definitely a little nuts."

"It was definitely a break with reality, but I think that's who Fantine is anyway."

She also spent four months working with a vocal coach to be able to sing live.

And the work appears to be paying off. After its first screenings, Hathaway and the film are both receiving rave reviews from critics.

"Les Miserables is an absolute masterpiece, a triumph in cinema. It will win Best Picture and Oscars for Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway," predicts Julie Stone of Newsweek.

Starring Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Russell Crowe, Amanda Seyfried (photosAmanda Seyfried photos), Eddie Redmayne, Samantha Barks, Helena Bonham Carter, and even Sacha Baron Cohen, the film opens December 25, 2012.
