Angola's Leila Lopes Crowned Miss Universe 2011

Leila Lopes, Miss Angola, is the new Miss Universe.

Leila beat out 88 other beauties to be crowned the winner of the competition in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Monday night.

The first runner-up was Olesia Stefanko of Ukraine and second runner-up was Priscila Machado of Brazil (who was allowed to compete even after nude photos of her surfaced last month, uncensored link).

She was followed by Miss Philippines and Miss China to round out the top five.

The 25-year-old, who is the first Angola native to capture the crown, sealed the win after confidently answering a question about what physical trait she would change if she could.

"Thank God I'm very satisfied with the way God created me and I wouldn't change a thing," Lopes said. "I consider myself a woman endowed with inner beauty. I have acquired many wonderful principles from my family and I intend to follow these for the rest of my life."

Lopes says she hopes to help the country escape its history of war and impoverishment towards a better future.

"I've worked with various social causes," she said after the competition. "I work with poor kids, I work in the fight against HIV. I work to protect the elderly and I have to do everything that my country needs. I think now as Miss Universe I will be able to do much more."

Miss USA Alyssa Campanella, from California, failed to end a long losing spell for the US. An American hasn't been named Miss Universe since 1997.
