Andy Rooney Hospitalized For 'Serious Complications' After Surgery

Andy Rooney, who signed off from '60 Minutes' earlier this month after three decades, is in hospital after suffering "serious complications" following minor surgery last week.

CBS has not disclosed the nature of the complication or the surgery but says the 92-year-old journalist is now in stable condition and remains under medical care from the operation.

Rooney delivered his 1,097th and final essay for '60 Minutes' on October 6.

He had been with the show as a writer since 1968. His 'A Few Minutes With Andy Rooney' segment was made a staple on '60 Minutes' in 1978.

In his final commentary, Rooney told viewers that retirement wasn't something he was looking forward to.

"This is a moment I have dreaded," he said. "I wish I could do this forever."
