Amy Schumer Wants Tougher Gun Laws After 'Heartbreak' Over Shooting

Amy Schumer is calling for tougher gun laws two weeks after a man opened fired and killed two during a screening of her movie 'Trainwreck' in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Schumer joined Senator Chuck Schumer, her second cousin, on Monday in a push for laws that aim to crack down on gun violence.

"We're here today to say 'enough is enough' to mass shootings in our schools, our college campuses, our military bases and even our movie theaters," she said. "These shootings have got to stop. I don't know how else to say it."

"This man shouldn't have been able to put his hands on a gun in the first place. It deserves unanimous support. The critics scoff and say, 'There's no way to stop crazy people from doing crazy things,' but they're wrong. These are not extreme ideas."

"These are my first public comments on gun violence," she added. "But I can promise you, they won't be my last."

Later in the evening, in appearance with Jon Stewart on 'The Daily Show', Schumer said the shooting left her "heartbroken."

"I was legit heartbroken," she said when asked about the incident. "To get that call, I'd had a lot of missed calls so I assumed there was a sex tape out of me or something. I was preparing for that, then to hear that news, it broke my heart."

"The second this happened, you want to act. I wanted to go down there and do whatever I could."
