Amber Heard Donates Entire $7 Million Divorce Settlement To Charities

Amber Heard (photosAmber Heard photos) is donating her entire $7 million divorce settlement from Johnny Depp to two charities.

Heard says she's splitting the money between the American Civil Liberties Union and the Children's Hospital Los Angeles. The actress says the first charity will use the money to benefit women who have been abused.

"As described in the restraining order and divorce settlement, money played no role for me personally and never has, except to the extent that I could donate it to charity and, in doing so, hopefully help those less able to defend themselves," Heard says in a statement.

"As reported in the media, the amount received in the divorce was $7 million and $7 million is being donated. This is over and above any funds that I have given away in the past and will continue to give away in the future."

"I know these organizations will put the funds to good use and look forward to continuing to support them in the future. Hopefully, this experience results in a positive change in the lives of people who need it the most."

As generous as the gesture is, the donation is also an important first step in Heard regaining her reputation.

During their bitter divorce, Depp and his lawyers said Heard was out for money while she claimed she had been abused by the star both emotionally and physically.

Amber Heard and Johnny Depp were married in February 2015 after dating for several years. They have no children together.
