Amazon Cancels Series Order for Chris Carter's 'The After'

'X-Files' creator Chris Carter will not return to television after all.

This after Amazon cancelled its series order for 'The After' months after originally picking up the sci-fi drama.

In an extremely brief statement, Amazon simply said: "We have decided to not move forward with The After. We would like to thank Chris Carter, the phenomenal cast, crew and producers for all their efforts."

The series, inspired by Dante's 'Inferno' and set moments after the apocalypse, was set to premiere this year. Only the pilot had been filmed so far, however, Carter said he had a 99-episode plan for the series.

The pilot's ensemble cast included Adrian Pasdar, Sharon Lawrence, Jamie Kennedy, Andrew Howard, Aldis Hodge, Arielle Kebbel, Sam Littlefield, Louise Monot and Jaina Lee Ortiz.
