Al Roker Takes Shot At Matt Lauer With Quip Over Ann Curry Firing

Al Roker's honest quip on the 'Today' show may have hit a little close to home for Matt Lauer.

The moment came as the morning show team was interviewing the US women's rowing team about their Olympic experience.

Talking about the tradition of a winning team throwing their coxswain into the water, Lauer told rower Mary Whipple that the tradition in New York is to throw winners into the Hudson River.

That's when Roker jumped in and quipped: "Which is different than our tradition, which is to throw one of us under the bus, but that's another story," of course referring to Ann Curry's recent firing.

Curry's replacement Savannah Guthrie playfully hit Roker to say no more as Lauer scolded "Mr. Roker!"

Curry was let go not long after Matt Lauer's signed a rich $25 million a year deal to stay on 'Today'. Their first appearance back together, as she reported on a story at the 2012 Summer Olympics, was best described as "tense", "awkward" and "chilly".
