Accounting Giant Apologizes For Best Picture Oscars Flub

PricewaterhouseCoopers, which is one of the world's leading auditors and tabulates the Oscar votes, released a statement apologizing for the Oscars flub that led to the epic mix-up viewers witnessed on Sunday night.

"We sincerely apologize to Moonlight, La La Land, Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, and Oscar viewers for the error that was made during the award announcement for Best Picture," the company said in a statement.

"The presenters had mistakenly been given the wrong category envelope and when discovered, was immediately corrected. We are currently investigating how this could have happened, and deeply regret that this occurred."

"We appreciate the grace with which the nominees, the Academy, ABC, and Jimmy Kimmel handled the situation."

Since presenters had apparently been given the envelope with Emma Stone's name, for the already announced Best Actress award, many viewers suspected that the presenters had picked up the wrong envelope after previous presenter Leonardo DiCaprio placed it down backstage.

However, Emma Stone told reporters backstage that she had her envelope all along.

"I f--king loved Moonlight. God, I love Moonlight so much! I'm so excited for Moonlight. And of course, it was an amazing thing to hear La La Land. I think we all would have loved to win best picture. But we are so excited for Moonlight," she said. "I think it’s one of the best films of all time. So I was pretty beside myself."

"I also was holding my Best Actress in a Leading Role card that entire time. So that story... I don't mean to start stuff, but whatever story that was, I had that card. So I'm not sure that happened."

PricewaterhouseCoopers always "doubles up" on cards with two entire sets of winning envelopes for backup. It's unclear if that's what caused the mixup but the company has promised to investigate.
