ABC Picks Up 'FlashForward' and Comedies For Full Season

ABC has picked up 'FlashForward' for the full season.

The show has been a solid performer for the alphabet despite going up against veteran shows such as 'Survivor' and 'Bones' in the Thursday 8 PM timeslot.

In fact, its premiere episode was the first regular program since 'Friends' to beat 'Survivor' in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic.

Last week's episode was seen by just over 9 million viewers with a 3.0 rating in adults 18-49 demo. Thus far, the show has been both a critical and ratings success.

The sci-fi drama is the heir apparent to 'Lost' with executives hoping it can fill the void when the island drama concludes its run next year. The pick up means that the network has ordered a further nine episodes, which will take its run to 22 this season.

ABC has also given full season orders to new Wednesday night comedies 'The Middle', 'Modern Family', and 'Cougar Town'. Although, it's not looking so good for 'Hank', which stars Kelsey Grammer as an executive who moves to a small town after he loses is job.

Last week, in its second airing, 'Hank' saw its audience fall 13% to 6.8 million and its rating in the key adults 18-49 demographic drop by 24% to a 1.6, barely beating 'America's Next Top Model'.

It doesn't help the show has been blasted by critics for being unoriginal and recycled.
